Arrest after man, 20, is stabbed

An arrest has been made after a 20-year-old man was stabbed in the chest in a south Wales valley village.

He is in hospital after the incident in Oxford Street, Pontycymmer, near Bridgend, at midday on Saturday.

South Wales Police said one person was arrested and they were not looking for anyone else.

But police want to speak to anyone who saw a man holding a knife walking through nearby Richard Street. Officers are also looking for a 12-inch knife.

Police said the man seen in Richard Street was about 6ft (1.83m), had brown spiky hair, wearing glasses and a green T-shirt.

They believe the knife was abandoned in the Pontycymmer area.

The injured man is being treated at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend.
