She had been on her way to a Polish church just over a week before when she was attacked. Nisbat Begun, who lived near to Ms Kaczan, said: "I would see her every morning when I was doing the school run. She was a very independent lady who used to be out all the time and it has shocked me.
Her friends Monika Zareba and Maria Wojtczak said before she died: "You didn't think something like this could happen to old people. "She has lost her life over her handbag. People like that disgust me. Targeting a lady like that when she couldn't defend herself. It is very very sad to hear it happening on your doorstep."
