Ohn Kyaing was taken from his home on Wednesday, according to the opposition National League for Democracy. The reason for his detention is unknown. He has already served 15 years in jail for distributing leaflets against the government. Ohn Kyaing won a seat in the parliamentary elections in 1990 that were annulled by the military. As well as being a close friend of Aung San Suu Kyi, Ohn Kyaing is also a colleague of Win Tin, an opposition politician who was released last week. Win Tin was the longest-serving political prisoner in Burma, serving 19 years behind bars. |
