'PM threat' four appear in court

A man accused of threatening to kill Gordon Brown and Tony Blair in a posting on an extremist jihadi website has appeared in court.

Ishaq Kanmi appeared for a preliminary hearing at Woolwich Crown Court in London along with three other men also charged with terror offences.

Mr Kanmi, 22, is accused of soliciting murder and of belonging or professing to belong to al-Qaeda.

All four men, who are from Blackburn, were remanded in custody.

Mr Kanmi is accused of disseminating terrorist literature along with co-defendant Abbas Iqbal, 23.

Mr Iqbal is also charged with owning terrorist material, including camouflage equipment.

His brother Ilyas Iqbal, 21, is accused of possessing terrorist material and conducting research into terror.

A fourth man, Muhammad Ali Mumtaz Ahmad, 24, is accused of possessing terrorist material such as camouflage clothes and plans for "urban combat".

The offences are alleged to have been committed between January and August this year.

Mr Justice Calvert-Smith set a provisional date of 5 January for a plea and case management hearing at a crown court in the north of England.
