Two US helicopters down in Iraq Two US helicopters down in Iraq
(10 minutes later)
Two US military helicopters have crashed in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, the American military says. An Iraqi soldier was killed when two US helicopters collided while landing at a base in northern Baghdad, the American military says.
The incident happened on Saturday evening in the north of the city. In a statement, the military said two American troops and two other Iraqis were wounded when the Black Hawks crashed on Saturday evening.
The Associated Press news agency reports that the two aircraft were Black Hawk helicopters, and that they crashed while landing. Military spokesman Capt Charles Calio said the incident did not appear to have been caused by hostile fire.
More to follow. An investigation is now under way.
