There has been an explosion at the home of an opposition politician in eastern Pakistan, officials say. At least 17 people have died in a suicide attack on the home of an MP in Pakistan's Punjab province, police say.
Police say the blast was caused by a suicide attack. It hit the home of Rasheed Akbar Noonani in the prosperous eastern province of Punjab. Dozens were injured in the bombing, which took place at a reception hosted by MP Rasheed Akbar Noonani.
Early reports say at least six people were killed. Mr Noonani is a member of the PML-N party led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He is a member of the PML-N party led by former PM Nawaz Sharif. Mr Noonani himself escaped with slight injuries.
The government is trying to deal with deteriorating security in Pakistan. Attacks targeting Pakistani leaders have increased, as the army continues operations against Taleban militants in tribal regions near the Afghan border.

"I can confirm that six people have died and at least 20 have been injured in the attack," local police chief Khadim Hussain said. "It was a suicide attack." Police say the casualties could rise as many of the wounded were in a critical condition.
Police have cordoned off the area and emergency services are carrying the dead and injured to local hospitals.
