Police are negotiating with a man in a Sunshine Coast unit complex and have ordered nearby residents to stay indoors, amid reports they were closing in on a suspect wanted over the discovery of a body of a teenage girl in a barrel.Zlatko Sikorsky, 34, has been wanted since Wednesday afternoon over the disappearance of 16-year-old girl Larissa Beilby. A man wanted for questioning following the discovery of a teenage girl’s body in a barrel was still holed up in a Sunshine Coast unit after 16 hours, with the area cordoned off by police.
Queensland police believe the man is alone inside an apartment. Zlatko Sikorsky, 34, has been wanted since Wednesday over the disappearance of 16-year-old Brisbane girl Larissa Beilby.
Police made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act about 3.25pm, telling nearby residents to stay indoors and for other members of the public to stay away. Hours of negotiations with police and his father had not persuaded Sikorsky to leave the unit in the Alexandra Headland complex early on Saturday.
The affected area is Juan Street, and is bounded by Alex Parade to the north, Mary Street to the west, Mayfield Street to the east and William Street to the south. Residents in the Juan Street complex were told to remain indoors and the public to avoid the area bound by Mary, Mayfield and William streets as well as Alex Parade.
Multiple media outlets said the police believed they were closing in on Sikorsky’s location on Friday afternoon.
