M6 closed after 'bridge incident' M6 reopens after bridge incident
(about 2 hours later)
The M6 has been closed in both directions while police deal with an incident on a bridge over the carriageways. The M6 has reopened after negotiators persuaded a woman in a "distressed state" to come down from the outside of a bridge over the motorway.
Staffordshire Police said officers were called to a bridge just south of Junction 15, Stoke-on-Trent. The motorway had been closed in both directions just south of junction 15 at Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, earlier.
No further details have been released about the incident. The woman came down from the bridge at about 1725 BST and she was examined by paramedics and taken to hospital for treatment.
A spokesman for the force said both carriageways were closed as a precaution and the road would be reopened as soon as it was safe. The A519, which was also closed, has since reopened.
