A man and a woman have been arrested by detectives investigating the murder of a pensioner in County Down.

Annie McCartan, 75, was found beaten and stabbed to death at her Summer Hill home in Warrenpoint on 15 June.

Mrs McCartan's murder was featured two weeks ago in a BBC Crimewatch reconstruction of the pensioner's last known movements.

Police recovered a knife which was used in the attack and are still seeking a second weapon.

Prior to her death, Mrs McCartan had been shopping in Newry before returning to Warrenpoint by bus at about 1420 GMT.

She spoke to a school crossing patrol lady and a close neighbour as she walked up Summer Hill before arriving at her house at about 1500 GMT.

It is believed that she was preparing food in the kitchen of her home, when she was attacked and killed.
