(35 minutes later) | |
Eight people have been injured in an attack on a bus in the northern German city of Lübeck, police have said, adding that a suspect has been arrested.
Police spokesman Dierk Duerbrook said the attack occurred on Friday in the city’s Kuecknitz district. Authorities were still trying to determine the circumstances of the attack, he added.
Local paper Lübecker Nachrichten reported, without giving a source, that a suspect had attacked passengers with a knife.
German news agency dpa quoted police as saying that three people received “medium serious” injuries in the incident, while five others received minor injuries.
State police tweeted: “Nobody was killed. The perpetrator was overpowered and is now in police custody.”
A police car which happened to be close by was able to get to the scene quickly, allowing officers to detain the perpetrator, Lübecker Nachrichten reported.
“One of the victims had just given up his place to an older woman, when the attacker stabbed him in the chest,” the paper quoted a witness as saying.
