An explosion has reportedly taken place outside the US embassy in Beijing. A person detonated a bomb outside the US embassy in Beijing, according to the US state department.
Videos posted on Twitter and Chinese social media showed smoke filling an intersection as groups of pedestrians gathered and what appeared to be police vehicles surrounding the vast structure in north-eastern Beijing on Thursday afternoon. “There was an explosion at approximately 1pm today in the public space off the south-east corner of the embassy compound. According to the embassy’s regional security officer, there was one individual who detonated a bomb. Other than the bomber, there were no injuries. The local police responded,” a US embassy spokesperson told the Guardian.
Police did not immediately respond to comments on the incident. The US embassy has not confirmed the explosion or cause. Videos posted on social media showed smoke filling an intersection as groups of pedestrians gathered and police surrounded the vast structure in north-eastern Beijing on Thursday afternoon. Roads near the embassy were blocked.
