A young woman was raped in a tenement after she got into what she believed was a private hire car sent to pick her up in Glasgow city centre.

Strathclyde Police said the 25-year-old was picked up by the bogus driver outside the Radisson Hotel on Argyle Street at about 0300 GMT on Sunday.

She was driven to a tenement and raped before she was taken back to Argyle Street at about 0430 GMT.

The woman was in the car for about 10 or 15 minutes before being raped.

She was said to be "badly shaken" following the incident.

'Short distance'

Det Sgt Gordon Pettigrew said: "The woman left Cube nightclub alone and walked onto Argyle Street, where she asked a crowd of people there to phone her a taxi.

"Shortly after, a blue car arrived and she got in, believing it was a taxi.

"The driver then took her to a tenement property a short distance away and seriously indecently assaulted her before driving her back to Glasgow city centre."

Police said the driver of the car was in his 30s and appealed for witnesses.
