To the Editor:

Re “Analyzing a Tight Congressional Race in Ohio” (letters, Aug. 9):

Minority-party voters need not be criticized for voting their conscience. Ranked-choice voting, in which voters’ second choices go to their second-best candidate, would eliminate this problem, and also save the cost of a runoff in close elections.

This is one of so many election reforms — like automatic registration, moving Election Day to a holiday and voting by mail — that would make elections more democratic and, Republicans fear, more Democratic.
