Pc in court on road death charge

A Northumbria policeman has appeared in court charged with causing death by dangerous driving while at the wheel of a police car.

Pc John Dougal, 40, was charged in connection with an incident Newcastle in May.

He entered no plea before Newcastle magistrates and will reappear at the city's Crown Court on 6 November.

Hayley Adamson, 16, died when she was struck by a marked patrol car in the west end of the city.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said no action would be taken against a second officer who was driving behind Pc Dougal's vehicle.
