Version 0 of 1.

A high-stakes gambler living in Nevada climbed to the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on Oct. 1. In his hotel suite, where he was equipped with an arsenal, he opened fire on thousands of people gathered at the Route 91 Harvest festival, a country music event.

With 58 fatalities, the event became the deadliest shooting in modern American history. But a year later, the gunman’s motive remains a mystery. In August, Las Vegas police released a final report on the massacre — with no answer as to why it happened.
