Patience 'running out' on justice

Sinn Féin is losing patience over the devolution of policing and justice, a senior party member has said.

The party denies DUP claims that it signed up to a voting system which would ensure unionists have a permanent veto over who holds a justice ministry.

Alex Maskey told Inside Politics he did not know if the row could be resolved.

"We know that the public's patience will run out on this as our own party's patience will run out on this," he said.

The Stormont executive has not met since June because of the dispute over the devolution of policing and justice powers.

On Tuesday, First Minister Peter Robinson said Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness agreed to the permanent use of a cross-community vote to elect any future justice minister.

However, Sinn Féin said this was to only last for one term of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
