It quoted residents as saying that the attack targeted a house in the area in which a man and his four sons and two workers died. There is no confirmation. One report said US soldiers on four helicopters had stormed a building on Sunday night.
Another report, by the private TV channel Al-Dunia, said that nine people had been killed and 14 wounded. The US says it is investigating. It has previously accused Syria of allowing foreign militants into Iraq.
It said that an unknown number of American helicopters attacked the village of al-Sukkiraya, east of the capital. It did not say when the attack happened. Local residents, talking to the Associated Press news agency by telephone, said that helicopters carrying US soldiers had raided a farm in the village.

The US military has complained in the past that Syria is the main transit point for foreign militants crossing into Iraq. The area is near the Iraqi border city of Qaim, which had been a major crossing point for fighters, weapons and money travelling into Iraq to fuel the Sunni insurgency.
