About 210,000 passengers use the station every day, according to average figures collected for the Office of Rail and Road in 2016-17. Network Rail apologised to customers and said the problems were due to a "power supply issue" at about 18:00 BST.
A spokesperson said: "We would advise passengers to check before they travel as there are severe delays and cancellations of services.
"We'd like to thank passengers for their patience and we're sorry for any inconvenience caused."
A Southeastern spokesperson said the initial problem had been resolved.
He added: "We are expecting disruption to continue until the end of service.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and would also encourage anyone who has experienced a delay of 30 minutes or more to claim Delay Repay via the Southeastern website."
