Lorry driver killed in collision Fatal lorry crash shuts motorway
(30 minutes later)
A lorry driver has died in a crash involving two lorries on the M40 on the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire border. A lorry driver has been killed in a crash on the M40, closing the motorway in both directions on the border of Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
The accident happened between junctions six and five of the southbound carriageway shortly after 0300 GMT. The crash, which happened in the early hours in freezing conditions, has shut all lanes between junctions six and four at High Wycombe.
One of the lorries has shed its load across all six lanes of both the north and south carriageways. The lorry driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The southbound carriageway is shut at junction six and the northbound carriageway is shut at junction four. The man was declared dead at the scene. One lorry shed its load - believed to be lard - causing slippery conditions and delays in the High Wycombe area.
The closures are likely to remain in place for some time, police said. The Highways Agency estimated the crash could take five hours to clear.
Drivers are being advised to avoid the area and to only make their journey if necessary. Diversions have been set up on the A40 but a lorry has jack-knifed on that road causing further problems, a Buckinghamshire County Council spokesperson said.
