Four survive Nigeria plane crash Generals die in Nigeria air crash
(about 1 hour later)
Four survivors have been found after a Nigerian military plane crashed on its way from the capital, Abuja, to the south-eastern Cross Rivers state. Ten of Nigeria's most senior army commanders have died when their military plane crashed near the south-eastern town of Obudu.
Eighteen people were on board the plane but a military spokesman said that other people may also have survived the crash, whose causes are not yet clear. Those killed include eight major generals and two brigadier generals, the authorities said.
Captain Emeka Ozomena told the BBC that the crash site had been located. President Olusegun Obasanjo called the crash a "monumental tragedy" and is flying home early from the World Bank conference in Singapore.
Two other officers also died, while at least four survived, the military says.
There were 18 people on board the plane when it crashed into a hill near Obudu after flying from the capital, Abuja.
Captain Emeka Ozomena told the BBC it was too early to speculate on the causes of the crash.
