A firefighter was injured in the crash which happened near Hailsham on the A271 just before 2000 GMT on Sunday. Sussex Police said Ilir Isufi had been staying in Hailsham but his next of kin were in Belgium and had been informed.
The motorist was pronounced dead at the scene, while the firefighter was taken to hospital in Eastbourne. A firefighter was also injured in the crash on the A271 near Hailsham just before 2000 GMT on Sunday.

Insp Mark Armstrong said the fire crew involved were being regarded as witnesses and police were following several lines of inquiry.
"This is another tragic incident on our roads and it is timely to remind people that driving conditions alter significantly at this time of year," he said.
