A Coleraine pensioner stabbed to death yards from his home seven years ago was killed in a "unprovoked attack", an inquest into his death heard on Friday. Norman Moffatt, 73, was knifed in the abdomen as he walked home from collecting his paper in January 2001. He died in hospital two months later. Detective Superintendent Nigel Kyle told the inquest police had been unable to establish a motive for the attack. In 2002 a man was charged with murder but the case was not proceeded with. A fresh appeal on the BBC's Crimewatch programme produced a new witness, but the Public Prosecution Service felt there still was not enough evidence to proceed. |
