She was taken to hospital for treatment but later died. A 21-year-old man was arrested in the West Midlands on Saturday night.
A 21-year-old man was arrested in the West Midlands on Saturday night and police said he would be brought back to Manchester for questioning later. A statement issued by Miss Barnes' family said she was "a very special person and much loved by all her family and friends, of which there were many".
A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said enquiries were continuing. The statement said: "We, as a family, are absolutely distraught and destroyed more than words can say.
"Words cannot express the pain we are in. We loved our baby so much, she was our reason for living. She was the most beautiful princess.
"We will not rest until justice has been done for our gorgeous daughter."
The arrested man was transferred to Manchester for questioning on Sunday.
