A Dorset woman was left tied up and bound in her home by an armed robber.

The 57-year-old, who lives in Sandbanks, Poole, was threatened with a gun before being bound while the robber made off with jewellery and cash.

Police have sealed off the Panorama Road property to carry out a forensic search. They appealed for anyone with any information to contact them.

The woman was not injured but was left shocked after the Friday evening robbery, police said.

Det Ch Insp Andy Clowser said: "This was a traumatic experience for the victim who was understandably very shocked and shaken.

"While the robber threatened her with a gun, he did not fire it. No violence was used and the woman was not hurt.

The robber has been described by police as about 30 years old, of medium build and about 5ft 8in (170cm) tall.

At the time of the incident he wore dark clothing, a balaclava and gloves.
