Appeal to car shooting witnesses

Detectives investigating the shooting of a man in his car outside his home in South Lanarkshire have appealed for help to trace two witnesses. Kenneth McMahon, 34, was wounded in the arm, leg and stomach during the attack in Lorne Street, Hamilton, at about 0730 GMT on Thursday. He was taken by relatives to Hairmyres hospital in East Kilbride where he remains in a stable condition. Police said they believed Mr McMahon was the intended target of the gunman. Det Ch Insp Neil Thomson of Hamilton CID, said: "We believe that the injured man was the intended victim and want to reassure the public that we are doing everything possible to trace the person or persons responsible." He said police were keen to speak to two witnesses who may have seen something significant. Officers want to trace a young woman who approached a man and woman at the corner of Burnbank Road and Lorne Street immediately after the sound of gunfire was heard. The area around Lorne Street would have been busy with people and we are keen to speak to anyone who may be able to assist us with our enquiry Det Ch Insp Neil Thomson Strathclyde Police She was apparently frightened and asked the couple if she could walk with them, then remarked that she had just seen someone with a gun. The woman is aged in her mid-to-late 20s and about 5ft 6in. She was dressed in a dark-coloured three-quarter-length coat and was wearing a distinctive hat, and gave the impression that she either lived or worked locally. Police would also like to speak to a man wearing a yellow-coloured fluorescent jacket who was seen in the Burnbank Road/Lorne Street area about the time the sound of shots was heard. Det Chf Insp Thomson added: "The area around Lorne Street would have been busy with people and we are keen to speak to anyone who may be able to assist us with our enquiry." |
