Men die in road gritter accident Road accident victims identified

Two men were killed when their car was in an accident with a road gritter, Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary have confirmed. Police have released the names of a man and youth killed when their car was involved in a collision with a gritter.
The accident happened at 0915 GMT on the A711 Dumfries to Dalbeattie road in the Long Wood area of Dumfries. Benjamin Pitkeathly, 20, from Dalbeattie, and Ian Brown, 16, were travelling in a Ford Focus when it crashed on Sunday.
The two local men, who have not been named, were in a Ford Focus car. The accident happened at 0915 GMT on the A711 Dumfries to Dalbeattie road. The road was reported to have been affected by black ice at the time.
Police are investigating the collision and road diversions are in place. The deaths bring the total killed on Scotland's roads this weekend to five. Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary appealed for witnesses to come forward.
The latest tragedy brings the region's road death toll to 23, with five people killed in the last two weeks.
