Possible job cuts could reach 517 Bosch job cuts add to 750 losses
(about 1 hour later)
In just two days, more than 500 people across Wales face losing their jobs. Another 250 jobs are under threat, bringing the total number of jobs at risk in firms across Wales, to more than 750 in two days.
Around 337 jobs are threatened at the Hoover plant in Merthyr Tydfil while 90 jobs will go with the closure of a Vale of Glamorgan care home. Bosch is the latest firm to announce that 250 jobs could go at its car-parts plant in Miskin, south Wales.
As well as the Bosch jobs, 517 posts at other firms around Wales are at risk, including 337 jobs at Hoover in Merthyr Tydfil.
Bosch employs 1,200 people at the plant and blames a decline in orders.
In October, it said up to 300 temporary jobs could go in 2009, but at the time, the company said it anticipated "secure employment for the permanent staff" until 2011.
But in a statement, the firm said: "Due to the current difficult market environment, Bosch has experienced a sharp decline of customer orders in the last quarter of 2008.
"As of now we expect that 250 jobs spread across all areas and functions within the plant are now at risk."
A 90 day consultation has now started.
Meanwhile 90 jobs are going following the closure of a care home in the Vale of Glamorgan and around 337 jobs are threatened at the Hoover plant in Merthyr Tydfil while 90 jobs will go with the closure of a Vale of Glamorgan care home.

The Jane Hodge respite care centre in Trerhyngyll, near Cowbridge, Vale of Glamorgan, will close in January after fulfilling its Christmas and New Year bookings.
Its owners, Livability, said moves to give disabled people more control over support they receive meant it had had less bookings.
The final guests will leave the care centre on 4 January 2009, with business finishing on 10 January.
Dave Webber, director of services for disabled adults at Livability, said: "We are enormously grateful for the hard work of our dedicated staff at the centre.
"Without them we would not have been able to make the difference we have to the lives of disabled people using the Jane Hodge Centre."
