Free trees to improve town views

Free trees are being offered to residents of a Lancashire town to encourage a greener outlook.

Councillors in Anchorsholme, Blackpool, are giving away 100 trees including silver birch, cherry blossom and alder.

But the new additions must be planted in front gardens overlooking pavements and street areas where passers-by can enjoy them.

Councillors Tony Williams and Mike Jebson have allocated part of their ward budget to fund the scheme.

Mr Williams said: "It's all part of our commitment to enhance the area with more greenery."

Trees will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.
