Bomb disposal experts have been called after "loud bangs" were heard near a pub in the early hours. Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing explosions after "loud bangs" were heard near a pub in the early hours of the morning.
A cordon was put in place around a roundabout by the Summerhouse pub in Worle, near Weston-super-Mare in North Somerset. Bomb disposal experts were called to Appletree Court in Worle when a 100m cordon was put in place near the Summerhouse pub.
Avon and Somerset Police said two men in their 20s had been arrested. The cordon was in place for about five hours, police said.
A spokeswoman said: "It follows an incident at about 4.20am on Tuesday when members of the public reported hearing loud bangs." A small lane, where the explosive device was found, is still closed and a house is being searched.
Police said the arrested men, aged 20 and 21, were helping with inquiries.
Det Insp Rich Horsfall said: "All efforts will be made to keep disruption to a minimum while we investigate the circumstances of this matter over the next couple of days.
"We will do our best to communicate and ensure that residents in the local community are kept informed as much as possible.
"Our priority will always be public safety and with that in mind we have to take precautionary measures when dealing with investigations of this type."
