The cul-de-sac that was used in the Channel 4 soap opera Brookside is being put up for auction.

The 13 properties on Brookside Close in West Derby were bought by Mersey Television in 1982 as a set for the show, which ran until 2003.

The three and four bedroomed homes were bought by developers in 2005 but have remained empty and need repairs.

The properties will be sold collectively at auction with a guide price of £550,000-£600,000.

The houses have played host to some of television's momentous moments such as the infamous patio burial of Trevor Jordache.

Six of the houses were seen on-screen as sets and the remaining seven were used to house the administration, post-production, canteen, make-up and technical facilities for cast and crew.

The show - which at its peak had audiences of eight million - ended after 21 years on Channel 4.

It was created by Phil Redmond, who also created Hollyoaks and Grange Hill

The auction is due to take place on 17 December.

A number of the properties were offered for sale last year.
