Two men suffered life-threatening injuries when a car crashed into a shop after a police pursuit. Two men were badly hurt when a car involved in a police chase ploughed into the front of a furniture shop.
Staffordshire Police said a white Volkswagen Scirocco left the road at Longford Island roundabout in Cannock and hit the front of DFS. The white Volkswagen Scirocco was being followed by officers when it crashed into the DFS store in Cannock, Staffordshire Police said.
It said prior to the crash, at about 03:45 BST, the car was being followed by a police vehicle. A pursuit began when two cars overtook an unmarked force car at speed, according to the police watchdog.
The Express & Star reported the men were taken to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Two men were thrown from the car and suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash at about 03:45 BST..
The pursuit and crash have been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, as standard. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), said it did not believe the cars had made contact before the crash.
Motorists have been warned to expect disruption due to road closures on the A5 while investigations continue. It said it has evidence the police activated their blue lights and followed the cars before the Volkswagen hit the furniture shop.
