Liberal Democrat MP Alistair Carmichael raised concerns in the Commons on Monday that the UK government may be delaying the Brecon by-election for political reasons.
He asked the Speaker for advice to ensure that the people of Brecon and Radnorshire are not left "unrepresented a second longer than they need to be."
Mr Bercow suggested that there is a process to follow if an MP believes that the delay is unreasonable.
It is up to the Conservatives to move the writ to begin the process for the by-election.
