Armed police stormed a property in Oxfordshire after reports a man with a shotgun had been acting erratically.

Police went to Wessex Road in Didcot and closed part of the road as they dealt with the "domestic-related" incident on Friday night.

After a six-hour stand off, officers forced entry to the house and arrested a man and woman, both in their 40s, who are in custody.

A shotgun was recovered and there were no injuries during the incident.

Det Con Rob Underhill, of Thames Valley Police, said: "This was a potentially serious incident and we had a number of specialist policing units here to deal with it, including firearms officers, dog units and trained negotiators.

"It was our objective to contain the scene and negotiate with the two people inside the property, but when that proved fruitless the decision was made to enter the property and arrest them.

"We are glad that the incident had a peaceful resolution and local officers will be liaising with the local community to reassure any concerned residents."
