Bolting horse ruins bride's day

A bride was thrown from her horse and carriage and ended up in a neck collar in hospital rather than in church getting married. The 29-year-old was with her 56-year-old father when the horse pulling their carriage bolted in Blackminster, near Evesham, Worcestershire, on Saturday. She suffered a bump to the head as they tried to get off the carriage. Her father suffered an injured leg and the carriage driver was run over by the vehicle as he chased after the horse. The bride also suffered injuries to her ankle and grazes and was immobilised using a neck collar and spinal board. 'Unfortunate incident' Her father also complained of chest pain and a bruised elbow. Both were taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital by ambulance for treatment. The 60-year-old carriage driver, who had chased after the horse, slipped and was run over by the carriage but was not seriously injured. He was taken to hospital as a precaution. "Our hearts really do go out to everyone involved in the wedding," said a spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service. "This was such an unfortunate incident. However, given what happened, there is no doubt that the situation could have been considerably worse with people suffering serious injuries a real possibility. "Thankfully that did not prove to be the case." |
