An 80-year-old woman has died after her car was involved in a crash in East Lothian on Friday evening.

The accident happened at about 1840 GMT at the junction of the B1437 and A199, near to East Fortune.

Police, fire service and ambulance crews attended the crash but the woman, who was from North Berwick, died at the scene.

Accident investigations are under way and police appealed for any witnesses to contact them.

Lothian and Borders Police said the woman's identity was being withheld until relatives could be informed.

A spokesman added: "Police are particularly keen to speak to the driver of an unidentified car which turned left from the A199 into the B1437 immediately prior to the collision.

"The road was subsequently closed for four hours to allow specialist accident investigators to make enquiries."
