At least 10 people have been injured in clashes between Palestinian inmates and Israeli warders at a West Bank prison.

An Israeli Prison Service spokesman said about 150 prisoners started fighting at Ofer jail, throwing objects at guards and setting two tents alight.

Seven inmates suffered smoke inhalation and three guards were injured, he said.

The Palestinian deputy prisoner affairs minister said eight inmates were injured. Ziad Abu Ein said guards were carrying out an inspection at the time.

He said the guards used sound grenades, tear gas and clubs, Associated Press news agency reported.

Ofer is near the West Bank town of Ramallah and holds hundreds of inmates.
