Crash in Fairfax leaves one teenager dead
(32 minutes later) | |
A teenager was killed Sunday evening and a second teenager seriously injured in a single-car crash in the western part of Fairfax County, police said.
The crash was reported about 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Stuart Mill Road and Coulter Lane in the Oakton area.
Five people were in the carwhen it crashed, according to Sgt. Greg Bedor, a police spokesman. Three suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening and the driver of the 2010 Kia Forte is in “life threatening condition,” police said.
An initial police investigation found that the Kia with all five teenagers inside was headed eastbound on Stuart Mill Road when it ran off the road and struck a tree.
On Monday, police said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash. But officials said the “possibility of speed being a factor is still being investigated.”
At the site of the crash, the road runs through a wooded residential area about a mile or two southeast of Reston. | At the site of the crash, the road runs through a wooded residential area about a mile or two southeast of Reston. |
The name of the teenager who died was not given by police officials due to a law in Virginia that prohibits the release of a minor’s name to the public.
