A man has been kidnapped and robbed by an armed gang in Londonderry.

He was confronted by up to five armed men on Monday night after leaving the off-licence where he works in Creggan.

The man was taken across the border before being released unharmed at Coshquin. It is believed the gang escaped with a four-figure sum.

PSNI District Commander David Hanna said the victim suffered a "terrifying ordeal" and appealed for witnesses to contact the police.

"I would appeal to members of the public who saw anything suspicious outside the off-licence before ten o'clock or at the time of closing, when the victim of this crime was abducted, to contact us at Strand Road.

"We're also looking for a red car, possibly a Mondeo, which may have been used to ferry the culprits to the scene of this crime," he said.
