San Diego Shooting Leaves 5 Dead, Including 3 Children San Diego Shooting: Man Kills Estranged Wife and Her 3 Sons, Officials Say
(about 2 hours later)
Three young children and two adults were shot and killed on Saturday in San Diego, the authorities said. A man shot and killed his estranged wife and her three young children in a San Diego home on Saturday morning before turning the gun on himself, officials said.
The police found a 31-year-old man, a 29-year-old woman and three boys — ages 9, 5 and 3 — dead with apparent gunshot wounds, Lt. Matt Dobbs of the San Diego Police Department said. He said an 11-year-old boy was in surgery after being shot as well. The police found the man, who was 31, dead inside the home with the mother, who was 29, and her three sons — ages 9, 5 and 3 — all of whom died of apparent gunshot wounds, Lt. Shawn Takeuchi of the San Diego Police Department said. An 11-year-old boy was in surgery after being shot as well.
A local television station reported that the victims were found on the 2100 block of Flintridge Drive, a residential area in the Paradise Hills neighborhood. Monica Montgomery, a San Diego councilwoman who represents the neighborhood where the shooting took place, said in a statement that the woman was the man’s estranged wife, but it was unclear if he was the father of the boys.
This story will be updated. Lieutenant Takeuchi said that the killings appeared to be the result of a “family dispute” and that there was no active threat to the area.
“As this story makes national headlines, we all grapple with the horror of the loss of these precious lives,” Ms. Montgomery said, calling the killings an “unfathomable tragedy.”
The family was found on the 2100 block of Flintridge Drive, a residential area in the Paradise Hills neighborhood. The home sits just a few blocks from an elementary school. Local television broadcasts showed that police had cordoned off part of the street with yellow tape.
