At least nine people have been shot at a party in Fresno, California in what appears to be a “mass casualty shooting”, according to police quoted in local media. Four people have been shot dead in Fresno, California, after suspects entered a backyard party and fired into the crowd, police said.
Fresno police Lt Bill Dooley said the shooting took place at about 6pm on Sunday on the city’s south-east side. The shooting took place at about 6pm at a residence in the south-east of the city where people were gathered to watch a football game, according to Fresno police.
Dooley said there was a party in the backyard of a home to watch a football game when the suspects snuck in and fired into the crowd. Michael Reid, the deputy police chief, told the Fresno Bee and the KSEE/KGPE TV stations that 10 people had benn shot, with three found dead in the backyard. A fourth victim died at the hospital.
At least nine people were shot, with several people being found dead in the backyard, he told the Fresno Bee and the KSEE/KGPE TV stations. Six others were expected to survive and were recovering at the hospital, police said. All the victims were Asian men ranging in age from 25 to 35, Reid said.
Authorities have not released a total for the number of people killed. Fresno police lieutenant Bill Dooley said the shooting took place at a backyard gathering of family and friends. He said the guests were watching football when unknown suspects approached the residence, entered the backyard and opened fire.
“What we do know is that this was a gathering, a family and friend gathering in the backyard,” Dooley said. “Everyone was watching football this evening when unknown suspects approached the residence, snuck into the backyard and opened fire.” The victims were taken to Community Regional Medical Center, with some in a critical but stable condition, media reported.
The Bee reported that neighbours, who declined to be named, said they heard multiple gunshots. About 35 people were at the party when the shooting began, Reid said.
The TV stations reported that injured victims were taken to the Community Regional Medical Center hospital in critical condition. No one has been arrested. No suspect is in custody. Police said there was no immediate indication that the victims knew the shooter or shooters.

It was at least the second fatal gun attack on Sunday in south-east Fresno, the Bee reported. A man in his 20s was shot to death earlier in the day at a home in another part of the city.
