Version 0 of 1.

Opposition Labour councillors in Aberdeen have called for an investigation after claiming their e-mails had been "tampered with".

They claim the tampering took place during a council investigation into an alleged leak.

The council said it does not open or read the content of e-mail correspondence of either councillors or staff, but could look at titles.

The Labour group has asked the council chief executive to look into the claim.

Labour group spokesman Willie Young said: "We are concerned our e-mails have been tampered with by an officer. Our e-mails are private."

A council spokesman said: "It would be inappropriate to comment on any investigation, or to confirm whether any particular issue is being investigated.

"However, Aberdeen City Council can confirm that it does not open or read the content of the e-mail correspondence of councillors or staff. In the course of an investigation, the council can look at the titles of e-mails and the titles of any attachments, for a specified time period.

"Aberdeen City Council has not looked at the content of any e-mail in the course of any investigation.

"Any investigations that the monitoring officer instructs are carried out with the agreement of the chief executive."
