(about 1 hour later)
South Africa won toss and elected to bat first against India in the second Test but were without the injured Jacques Kallis and Dale Steyn. South Africa stumbled to India's pace bowlers once again after electing to bat in the second Test in Durban.
Steyn failed a fitness test on his thigh but Kallis was a surprise omission after feeling shooting pain in his spine in the morning. Zaheer Khan struck twice to leave the hosts 67-3 at lunch, with Herschelle Gibbs riding his luck on 26 not out.
Andrew Hall and debutant Morne Morkel replaced them in the line-up for the hosts, who are 1-0 down in the series. The day began badly when Jacques Kallis was ruled out after feeling shooting pain in his spine in the morning.
India are unchanged from the side that won the opening Test in Johannesburg. Skipper Graeme Smith fell to an ugly pull at Zaheer, Sachin Tendulkar taking a brilliant catch in the third over and South Africa were 28-3 at one point.
Dale Steyn was also missing after failing a fitness test on his thigh, with Andrew Hall and debutant Morne Morkel coming into the side.
