Police have used a Taser stun gun to disarm a man in County Antrim in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
A 46-year-old man has been charged with attempted hijacking and having an imitation firearm following an incident at a County Antrim hotel.
The 46-year-old was arrested after he hijacked a taxi on a journey from Belfast. He forced the driver to take him to a hotel in Templepatrick.
Police used a Taser stun gun to disarm a man who used a replica gun to force a taxi driver to take him to a hotel in Templepatrick early on Wednesday.
He threatened the driver and hotel staff. Police received reports that the man had a gun. A specialist firearms team used the taser to disarm him.
One man is expected to appear at Antrim Magistrates Court on 27 January.
The gun was found to be a replica weapon.
The charges are subject to review by the Public Prosecution Service.
The police ombudsman said it was investigating the incident.
"Taser discharges are automatically referred to the police ombudsman for independent investigation and investigators are conducting enquiries," said a spokesman.
It is the third incident in which police have used a Taser stun gun since their introduction in Northern Ireland in January.
