No victim found after report of person struck by train, Prince George’s police say
(about 3 hours later) | |
Authorities searched for hours Tuesday night after it was reported that someone may have been struck by a train in the College Park area, authorities said. But no victim was found, the Prince George’s County police said.
The search was suspended about 8 p.m., said Cpl. Lamar Robinson, a county police spokesman. He said it was initiated after police received a call about 5:30 p.m. about the possible incident between College Park and Greenbelt.
It was not clear who called or what suggested that anyone had been struck.
The investigation disrupted service on MARC, the Maryland commuter rail system. A MARC train scheduled to leave Washington for Baltimore at 5:22 p.m. was halted at College Park. A train that left Baltimore at 6:15 p.m. for Washington was stopped at Greenbelt. Shortly after 8 p.m. the Maryland Transit Administration said rail service had resumed.
