A 4-year-old child was struck by a vehicle and seriously injured in Southeast Washington Tuesday night, the D.C. police department said. A 4-year-old student at a school in Southeast Washington was struck by a vehicle and seriously injured Tuesday night, authorities said.
The child was being treated for life-threatening injuries after being struck in the 4200 block of Massachusetts Avenue SE about 7:30 p.m., a D.C. police spokesman said. The child and the child’s mother were leaving an after-school care program when the child was struck on a street outside the school, said Joyanna Smith, the D.C. regional director for the Rocketship Public Schools organization.
“We are providing support to our student’s family,” Smith said in a statement.
The school said in its statement that “as we gather more information from [D.C. police’s] investigation we will remain in communication with all families and continue to work together to advocate for student safety on the streets surrounding our campus.”
