A man died when he was struck by a vehicle on the M1 in South Yorkshire. | |
The southbound carriageway between J36 at Tankersley and J35A at Stocksbridge was shut for about eight hours after the crash, at about 05:30 GMT. | |
The 62-year-old victim, from Sheffield, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed, said South Yorkshire Police. | |
The motorway has since re-opened following an investigation at the scene. | |
Officers are appealing for witnesses and drivers with dashcam footage to contact them. | |
Traffic was stuck between the junctions for several hours, Highways England said. | |
There was also a tailback of about 5 miles (8km) to J38 at Haigh. | |
Motorists were diverted off the motorway via the A61 and A616 and had been advised to plan their route and avoid the area if possible. | |
