Southwark Tube closed after flooding from burst pipe | Southwark Tube closed after flooding from burst pipe |
(about 4 hours later) | |
A burst water pipe caused heavy flooding and the closure of Southwark Tube station in south London.
Nearby homes were left with low water pressure following damage to a pipe on Blackfriars Road, which has been closed to traffic.
Thames Water said customers in all south-east postcodes were affected but the water had been drained away and supplies were returning to normal.
Southwark station was closed until about midday.
An area of about 1,700m (5,577ft) and about 20 properties were affected by the flooding at the junction of Blackfriars Road and Union Street.
Roads surrounding the station were littered with debris and rubble from a rupture in the road.
Thames Water said it received calls from about 400 customers, mainly from the SE16 and SE1 postcode areas, and apologised for the disruption.
"The flooding has now drained away and water supplies to customers in the area are now returning to normal," a spokesman said.
Blackfriars Road remains closed with repairs to the surface expected to take several days. |
