A BBC journalist with a child at the school confirmed the alert was genuine. A medical centre less than a mile from the school has also closed due to a "confirmed case of coronavirus".
Derbyshire County Council and the Department for Health would not comment. Derbyshire County Council said it was "investigating the reports".
BBC Radio Derby reporter Matt Barlow, who has a son at the school, said: "There's no implication here that any parent that's been into the school has the virus.
"But I'm pleased they've taken this precaution and let parents know."
Buxton Medical Practice has also closed and its answerphone message currently says: "We have a confirmed case of the coronavirus.
"We are liaising with Public Health England and the CCG to ensure all appropriate actions are taken. Please do not come to the practice."
Derbyshire County Council said it was "seeking confirmation from Public Health England".
"We will release further information as soon as possible," a spokesman said.
