Fire crews have spent the night tackling a major blaze in Bristol. A major blaze that left a historic Bristol building "extensively damaged" is being investigated by police.

Nearby roads, including Baldwin Street, have been closed and police said disruption in the area would continue "for some time". Det Insp Andrew Branch of Avon and Somerset Police said they "are treating the incident as suspicious at this time".
Residents have been evacuated from nearby buildings, including a number of students from their accommodation. Baldwin Street and Broad Street remain closed to vehicles but Small Street is open again, police said.

The Guildhall is a Grade II* listed building.
