About 3:15 p.m., patrol officers heard gunshots in the 3000 block of 14th Street NW, Commander Stuart Emerman of the 3rd District said. The officers found a man with a gunshot wound to his upper body, said Emerman, speaking at the scene in a video that was posted by the police department on Twitter. | |
An initial report from police also described the victim as “unconscious and not breathing” at the scene. | |
Emerman said police were looking for a dark, four-door vehicle last seen fleeing the area, heading east on Irving Street NW. | |
Investigators were talking to possible witnesses and seeking surveillance video from the many businesses in the area. | |
“We’re trying to pull as much video as we can as well as [finding] witnesses,” Emerman said. “We know it’s a very populated area here during the daytime, especially here on a Sunday afternoon ” | |
